The Lee County Libraries has been awarded a $89,294 grant to be used for the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Collection Upgrade at the new public library opening in spring 2026.
This project was supported by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the federal Library Services and Technology Act, as administered by the State Library of North Carolina.
With the support of the grant, Lee County Libraries will introduce RFID inventory tags on all library materials, along with self-checkout kiosks and security gates in the new library facility.
The technology will enhance accuracy in tracking the collection while streamlining check-in and check-out processes, providing greater efficiency for both patrons and staff.
“The integration of RFID technology positions our new library building at the forefront of modern library services and enables our staff to dedicate even more attention to serving the needs of our community,” Library Services Director Beth List said in a release.
Lee County Libraries received one of the 41 competitive grants for fiscal year 2025-2026 awarded to North Carolina libraries from this year’s federal allotment.
